So many parents are opting for the first year collection to document their little one’s first year. The first year collection is a discounted bundle of sessions in your child’s first year. The packages include a newborn session, a sitter session and first-year portraits/cake smash session. While most families are confident they want a newborn and a cake smash session, the sitter session often gets a few questions. Here’s what to expect at your child’s sitter session.
What’s a sitter session?
A sitter session takes place when your child is sitting on their own, without assistance. This varies by child, but typically occurs between 6-9 months. These sessions are so much fun because your child’s personality is blossoming. At their newborn session, they’re sleepy little potatoes. But at their sitter session, we can usually get their personality shining through with those gummy smiles and giggles.
What To Expect At Your Child’s Sitter Session: Props
Just like your newborn and cake smash session, you don’t need to bring a thing to your child’s sitter session. I will provide everything! You will notice in my sitter gallery that sitter sessions tend to be more simple sessions without a lot of props. That really is because your child is the focus of the images. I use your questionnaire to choose 4-5 prop set-ups and I will have those laid out and ready to go when you arrive.
What to Expect At Your Child’s Sitter Session: Outfits
Based on your questionnaire, I will plan outfits around the different props. I have a variety of outfits in the Client Closet that fit a range of sizes. There are outfits for both girls and boys. If your little one is significantly smaller than typical 6 month clothing, you can let me know on your questionnaire and we can chat further about that. If there is an outfit that you would like to bring, you are welcome to do so. Just know that the Client Closet is carefully curated to include pieces that are timeless and flattering on your little one.
What to Expect At Your Child’s Sitter Session: The Session from Start to Finish
When you arrive at the studio, we will jump right into your session. Be prepared that there will be a lot of outfit changes. In this age group, there isn’t a lot of “posing” per say, so we’re just working to try to get the smiles. If your little one has something that they love (video, stuffed animal, song, etc.), I encourage you to bring it. We will do all the silly things to get those smiles! If you chose to add family portraits to the sitter session, we will be sure to do that at the end of the session.
Sitter sessions are truly so much fun. Families are often so glad that they took advantage of this session, because the growth in the first year is so monumental.
