Newborn sessions are my happy place. To me, there is nothing more exciting than meeting a family for the first time and being able to watch them love on their new little bundle of joy. For many new parents, this is their first newborn session and they are unsure of what to expect. I pride myself on making sure my clients are well-educated before their session, so here is what to expect during your 2022 newborn session with Sharon Leger Photography.
What to Expect During Your Newborn Session: Safety and Cleanliness
This goes without saying, but your baby’s safety is my number one priority. At your session, you can expect that I will be diligent and prioritize your baby’s well-being over anything else. I have been safety trained in newborn posing and you can trust that your baby is in the best possible hands. Your baby will never be left unattended or put into a precarious position.
The sanitation and cleanliness of the studio is another high expectation that you can have for your session. Before and after each session, the props and studio are thoroughly cleaned. I do provide a changing pad that is changed and laundered between each session (of course, you’re always welcome to use your own). All props and linens are also washed between sessions in baby-friendly detergent.
What to Expect: Families First
Upon arrival, I usually like to jump into the family posing right away. The reason for this is big siblings are often more cooperative when they first get to the studio. I like to take advantage of the novelty and get those trickier poses in first. Another reason I like to do family pictures first is because the studio is very warm during a newborn session, so the longer you are there, the more you may start to sweat. No one wants that! And finally, once family pictures are done, you can sit back and relax while I take care of the rest. A lot of times, families with older siblings will bring a second car so that they can leave after their portion of the session is done. The studio is lovely, but it can get small fast with kiddos around!
What to Expect During Your Newborn Session: Props and Posed
After the family pictures are done, it will be time for just your newborn baby. If you followed your prep guide, your little one should be nice and sleepy during this time. I will be working to get your little one swaddled and sleeping. This way, we can get pictures with a variety of props and backgrounds.
I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect during your newborn session. These sessions usually take 2-3 hours. Be sure to bring your phone charger and I am never offended if you whip out a book or thank you cards to write. Your baby will be within your view at all times. You are always welcome to snacks, coffee and drinks that I provide in the studio.
