I absolutely love being able to offer color choices to my newborn session clients. When clients walk in the door of the studio, they are always so excited to see the different set-ups in their chosen palette. Selecting colors for your newborn session is a great way to make sure the final products match your home decor and the vision you have in mind for your newborn pictures. Here are some things to think about when selecting colors for your newborn session:
Selecting Colors for Your Newborn Session: Think Classic and Timeless
When you receive your questionnaire after you book your newborn session, it will walk you through the color selection process. You will be able to visit a page on my website where you will find all of the current options that are available. I always encourage clients to think classic and timeless. Personally, I am always drawn to neutrals, but you may want to create variety in your galleries with a bolder color. It’s all about balance! If this part of the process overwhelms you, I’m happy to take the reins or talk through it with you. In addition to the 3 or so colors that you select, I will usually have a few other options that are either seasonal or that I selected just for your little one!
Selecting Colors for Your Newborn Session: Home Decor
When choosing your colors, you may want to consider your home decor. If you have a light and bright house with mostly white walls and neutral accents, you may want to choose lighter colors. If your decor style is more classic, bolder colors might suite you best. When you think about where you will want to display your final images, that will help you to narrow down some of your choices. And again, if you want to send me pictures of your home, I am happy to help you with this part of the process.
Selecting Colors for Your Newborn Session: Birth Announcements
Just like with home decor, you may want to consider how you will use your final images for birth announcements. Not everyone does these, especially in the digital age. But if you poke around on Shutterfly or TinyPrints, see which formats you’re drawn to. If there are gold accents, feel free to let me know and we can see how we can incorporate it. I’m always up for a challenge!
A Final Word About Color Selection
When you fill out your pre-birth questionnaire, I will ask you for three colors you prefer. This will give you a good variety. Know that I will vary things also with a variety of props and set-ups, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Having done dozens of newborn sessions, I promise that I will be able to match your vision and we can work together to achieve it.
