Mini session days are truly a blast. Yes, there’s a lot of work that leads up to it (hello, outfit selection), but once we’re there, the 15 minutes fly by. Moms and dads alike are constantly commenting on how surprisingly fun it was for the whole family. In order to make sure you have the best experience possible, here are a few mistakes to avoid on the day of your mini session.
Mistakes To Avoid on the Day of your Mini Session: Skipping Naps
When time slots are live, be sure to keep naps in mind. Skipping a nap is the biggest mistake you can make before a mini session with little kids. Sometimes bedtime can be pushed a little bit, but nap times tend to be disastrous when ignored. I hate to suggest planning your day around the nap, but in this case, it’s essential.
Mistake #2: A Busy Day
I always laugh when a family shows up to their session, out of breath, coming from a soccer tournament. Then, the kids are cranky and no one knows why. Life definitely can’t stop for your mini session, but there are some options. You can try to book your session earlier in the day or maybe think about booking a full session to avoid a busy day. When kids are exhausted at their session, it’s not always easy to get the shots you are hoping for.
Mistake #3: Colorful Snacks
I almost slapped an Oreo out of a Dad’s hand once. He brought it to the mini session as a bribe and was handing it over. “NOOOO!” was my mental dialogue, imagining all the black teeth pictures from here on out. Be aware of the snacks that you provide the day of the session, as your child may end up wearing them!
Mistake #4: Skipping Meals
In the same vein as the naps, don’t skip meals! I am the Queen of the Hangry, so I get it. No one wants to do anything when they’re hungry, never mind a mini session. You definitely don’t want low blood sugar to be the cause of cranky family pictures, so plan accordingly.
Mistakes To Avoid on the Day of your Mini Session: Trying on Outfits That Day
Being a mom is a ton of work. There’s constantly something that needs your attention and I get it. One thing you don’t want to wait until the last minute on is trying on outfits for your family session. If your daughter goes to pull on her tights that morning and there’s a huge tear, it’s going to be way more stressful than if you noticed the weekend before. Be sure to decide if anything needs to be laundered or ironed ahead of time and remove tags carefully.
In order to ensure your session goes without a hitch, keep these mistakes to avoid on the day of your mini session in mind!
