This gorgeous mom-to-be reached out after finding me in a local Facebook group. She mentioned that she loved my work and was so excited that I offered a Client Closet.

Before the session, this expecting mom visited my Canton, Connecticut studio to meet with my in-house stylist. She tried on a few options and selected three different gowns for her session. Each option brought its own personality and style. After finalizing wardrobe, we talked locations. It didn’t take long to land on Elizabeth Park in West Hartford — a local favorite and one of the most breathtaking backdrops in all of Connecticut. The rose garden comes alive in late spring, and I knew that timing her maternity session around the blooms would make her portraits unforgettable.

We also decided to schedule the session on a weekday evening when the park would be less crowded. Getting Ready for a Confident, Glowing Session

On the day of her maternity session, this mom started her day at my Canton studio with a little pampering. My trusted in-studio hair and makeup artist worked her magic to ensure that Mom felt confident, comfortable, and absolutely glowing before heading to the park.

When I arrived at Elizabeth Park to meet her and her husband, the weather was just perfect — warm enough for flowy dresses but not too hot, with a light breeze that made the fabric move beautifully in the photos.

There’s something about the combination of professional styling, perfect weather, and a relaxed couple that always results in magic — and this session was no exception.

Capturing Connection Among the Roses

My favorite part of their session? Hands down, the rose wall. It was in full bloom and made the most breathtaking backdrop. We started with soft, natural poses to help them warm up to the camera, and within minutes, I could see their nerves melt away.

Both parents had mentioned feeling a little nervous about being photographed — they worried they might look awkward or not know what to do. Totally normal! But with a little gentle direction and encouragement, they quickly got into the groove. By the end of the session, they were absolute naturals — laughing, snuggling, and completely at ease.

That’s one of my favorite parts of my job as a family photographer: helping my clients feel confident and beautiful in front of the camera. It’s not about stiff posing; it’s about connection and emotion — those in-between moments that tell your story.

Three Gorgeous Looks, One Beautiful Story

Throughout the evening, we transitioned between three gowns from my Client Closet to bring variety and depth to the final gallery.

✨ The first gown was light and romantic — perfect against the pastel petals of the rose garden.
✨ The second was a soft, neutral tone that paired beautifully with the park’s greenery.
✨ The third had a dramatic flow that caught the light as the sun dipped lower in the sky.
