If I had to pick a session type that is most underrated, I would say that it is the six month photo shoot. As a CT baby photographer, I know that this is the session where your child’s personality is first starting to blossom. At six months old, they are typically sitting, but not yet on the move. That means we can capture those gummy smiles without breaking a sweat! Also, your child tends to develop stranger danger between 9-12 months old. Because of this, six months is the perfect time to photograph them.
Six Month Photo Shoot: The Session
Why doesn’t everyone book a six month photo shoot? There are a variety of reasons, but the one that I hear most is that it is not as important as the newborn or cake smash session. While I agree that those two sessions are definitely the more significant sessions, the sitter session is an important milestone too. Before your baby crawls, you don’t realize how amazing it is to have a stationary child. Once they’re on the move, they don’t slow down … ever again! One piece of advice that I always give as a CT baby photographer is that they are only this little once. Don’t miss your chance to freeze this moment in time!
This little guy was amazing at his boy sitter session. His mom had booked a studio sitter session for his older brother when he was six months old. Because of that, she knew why it was so important to make this milestone session happen. We tried to get a lot of the same shots so that she would have similar pictures of both of her boys. I love whenever we are able to make that happen as CT baby photographer.
Why You Want To Book a Six Month Photo Shoot
In the studio, I have a variety of different props that help to support sitters at all stages. I do the props in a certain progression to see how your child does. If they get nervous in a well structured prop, I keep them in props where they are fully supported. If they don’t mind sitting on their own, then we progress through the different props. This little guy hated the chair set-up that his older brother had loved. We gave it a shot since mom really wanted a picture of both her boys in the chair, but he wasn’t having it!
Because six month old babies can’t pose very well, we typically work for the smile and then switch sets. This means that your gallery will have a lot of variety and just all of those adorable baby smiles. I work to ensure that you get detail shots as well. I mean, who doesn’t love a good thigh roll? Seeing their personalities shine through during this session is one of my favorite things as a CT baby photographer.
Final Notes
Sometimes I am asked, can I still book a sitter session if my child is crawling? Absolutely! I have found as a CT baby photographer that this often means their stranger danger has set in too. As long as you are aware of that ahead of time and are ready to sweat, you can absolutely book this session! We may get some on-the-move shots, but those are just as cute as sitting pictures in my book!
I was so glad that this family booked their boy sitter session with me. As a CT baby photographer, I think it is one of the best sessions and I promise that you won’t regret it. Next up? His cake smash!
