Have I mentioned how much I love this couple and their family? They have been with me since the beginning, and I was more than honored to be their Connecticut maternity photographer. This was a unique situation, in that they are actually neighbors of mine. We had fantasized about trying to pull off a winter maternity photo shoot. But of course, we had no snow! So I brought the dresses that the mom and I selected home from the studio, just in case.
Winter Maternity Photo Shoot: The Plan
One morning, we woke up to a completely unexpected snowfall. Neither of us had it on our radars at all. So I texted the mom and asked her if she was game to go outside for a few minutes and capture some winter maternity photos. She was all in! At the time, their older son was younger than 18 months, so we knew he wouldn’t last long in the cold. That’s why this last minute session was perfect, since we could literally be in their front yard!
The father actually was away that morning and didn’t even know about our plan. He came home to us getting the mom dressed and throwing an outfit at him. Luckily, he loves us! While the family finished getting ready, I went outside to pick the perfect location. In freshly fallen snow, you do not want to have a million foot prints to edit out. Because of this, I try to know exactly where I want my clients as a Connecticut maternity photographer.
The Session: Winter Maternity Photo Shoot
Their little guy was such a trooper. We did family photos to start, so their toddler could go inside with his dad when he was done. Then the mom and I stayed outdoors to get some shots of her on her own. Then, she changed dresses and jumped in my car. We drove up a few houses to our neighbor’s house. They have a gorgeous pond in their backyard that I just needed to take advantage of. These are some of my favorite shots, so I am so glad that we made it happen.
It is deceiving but the maternity dresses that I provide as a Connecticut maternity photographer are surprisingly warm. All of my maternity clients comment that they thought they would be colder. This is because they are made of high-quality material, which helps to insulate you.
I am so glad that we were able to pull off this CT snow maternity session. A few hours after we captured these images, the snow had already melted. It was definitely meant to be and made my Connecticut maternity photographer heart so happy!
