In-Home Newborn Session | Connecticut Newborn Photographer

Are you interested in booking a CT in-home newborn session? To be honest, the majority of my newborn sessions take place at my studio in Canton, Connecticut for a variety of reasons. That being said, CT in-home newborn sessions are absolutely an option. Check out this lifestyle newborn session with this new family of three.

CT In-Home Newborn Session: Planning The Session

Similar to a studio newborn session, this mom had a chance to choose her colors for her newborn session. She is a huge fan of neutrals, so I wasn’t surprised when she chose those for her newborn session. For a CT in-home newborn session, I bring very few props. We use the furniture that you have in your home for a more casual feel. This mom had a few newborn outfits that she was excited to use, but other than that, we went very simple.

CT In-Home Newborn Session: Day of The Session

The day of the session, I arrived at the house and began to set up. I had asked the family to turn their thermostat up so that the living room was nice and warm. From there, I brought in my equipment. This includes a basket, swaddles, a heating fan and my lighting equipment. We chatted while the mom fed her baby and then got ready to do family shots.

Again, similar to my workflow at the studio, we started with parent and family shots. There were no older siblings, but we did decide to get the dogs in on the action! They were unimpressed with me, but it made for some sweet moments with baby Everett. The session ran about two hours total, with breaks for feedings and diaper changes.

Final Thoughts About CT In-Home Newborn Session

Before you decide if a newborn session at your home is right for you, consider how you might feel after giving birth. A lot of parents are not ready to have a photographer come into their home. That being said, I can do a lot in a small amount of space! I had met this family at their maternity session on the property. This helped both of us to understand the space and the vision before booking a CT in-home newborn session.

Second, consider the types of images that you want to have by the end. This family had just moved into their forever home so they knew they wanted their session to be done there.

Finally, another key is lighting. Again, because I had visited this family’s home for their maternity session, I knew what time of day the living room would be ideally lit. They had a wide open room that had a lot of natural light, perfect for an at-home session. While this is not 100% necessary, it is going to help create light, bright images in your final gallery.
