This expecting mom reached out to me in November when her and her husband were able to purchase the home of their dreams. They had visions of a maternity session, in the snow, at their dream home. I was all about it … but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other thoughts!
CT Pregnancy Photographer: The Plan For This Maternity Session
The question that I get asked most often as a CT pregnancy photographer is the best time to book your session. As a general rule, I recommend between 32-35 weeks. This is when you are going to generally feel your best. This is not always the case though and you can choose to book your session earlier or later than this.
This expecting mom knew she wanted to wait for snow to fall at her home. Because snow can be unpredictable, we put a tentative date on the calendar and crossed our fingers. When the day came? No snow. We waited out two more weeks and finally realized that we were closing in on her due date.
The Result: CT Pregnancy Photographer
I know this expecting mama was disappointed that we didn’t have fresh snow for her session. That being said though, I was thrilled with the results! While it can be cold in Connecticut in January, this day was not too frigid. The brown look of the grass and plants gave it a classic, timeless look. And mom’s dress was perfect against the landscape. I could not help but notice that if it had been covered in snow, there would not have been a lot of visual interest in the photos.
It was great getting a chance to chat with this couple and hear about their plans for their baby. While we were at their house, we realized that a lifestyle newborn session might make more sense. So that is exactly what we planned for.
Final Notes
Finally, I always recommend that you book a maternity session with the photographer that you are using for your newborn photos. I suggest this as a Connecticut maternity photographer for a variety of reasons. First, it helps you get to know your photographer. In a few short months (or weeks!), you will be trusting them with your newborn. You will feel so much more confident if you have had a chance to get to know them!
Second, the maternity session gives us a chance to brainstorm more about what you want your newborn session to look like. Sometimes, we’ll be struck with inspiration after something that is said during your maternity session. And finally, it will make it so that your newborn and maternity galleries are cohesive. If you want to put these images up in a nursery, it will help so much to have the shots taken by the same photographer.
I am so excited to work with this family in January when their little boy arrives!
