What is better than a cake smash? A cake smash for twin boys, of course! As a CT Cake Smash Photographer, I love a good planning challenge. When we were planning this cake smash twin boys, the mom told me that she wanted a simple cake smash. We brainstormed different boy cake smash ideas and decided on a rustic cake smash that had a touch of blue. Once we decided on that together, the mom began to work on outfits. While she did that, I began to shop for items that we would need for the set.
CT Cake Smash Photographer: The Prep
I first met this family as their CT newborn photographer when they came in for their newborn session. That had been my first time doing a twin newborn session. It was such an amazing session and I was so excited to see how big the boys had gotten.
As you can imagine, I have a studio full of cake smash accessories as a CT cake smash photographer. That being said, I generally don’t have two of everything. I knew this twin cake smash would need to have matching cake stands, so that was my first challenge. After I found the cake stands, it was time to focus on the blue cake smash portion. I created banners that would bring all of the colors and elements of the cake smash together. Finally, I ordered two matching cakes from Home Sweet Home Bakery in Burlington.
At first, the mom and I debated if we wanted to do the twin cake smash outdoors. We ultimately decided not to, since the boys were officially on the move! Being outdoors meant there would be a lot of chasing them around. When the day came, we were so glad we had decided on doing the twin cake smash indoors. First, because it was a hot day. Second, because these twins made a mess. That would have been hard to clean up outdoors! And finally, because it was the perfect blue cake smash for these two one-year olds.
Cake Smash Session
The simple cake smash started off with what I call “clean portraits”. As a CT cake smash photographer, I know how important it is to get some pictures before the cake comes out. We got pictures of each boy individually, as well as some of them together. After the clean portraits were done, it was time to bring out the cake!
My favorite part of the rustic cake smash was seeing how the boys reacted to the cake. It is always so hard to predict what your child will do when given a cake to destroy. These guys understood the challenge and went for it. We were all laughing as the boys put their faces in the cake.
Before we knew it, the cake was smashed and I had done my first twin cake smash! If you are planning a cake smash for twin boys, I definitely recommend doing a rustic cake smash or a simple cake smash. These boys were too cute!
