As a CT maternity photographer, I absolutely love when seasons start to change. This expecting couple decided to split their maternity session into two parts. The first part was in the snow (you can see that here). The second part was a spring blossom maternity session with their toddler.
We decided to split the session for two reasons. First, their oldest son is about 18 months old. This made it challenging to have him out in the snow for long. Second, their second baby was going to be born in May. Because of this, the mom wanted to make sure we did CT maternity photos closer to the due date. After seeing the final product of the spring blossom maternity session, I think you will agree that it was a great idea!t
Spring Blossom Maternity Session: Planning
When planning for a spring blossom maternity session, you need to keep in mind that blooming schedules can be unpredictable. If you are trying to plan a spring blossom maternity session far in advance, here are some struggles you may encounter. First, if the weather changes drastically in the weeks leading up to your session, the blooms may change. Second, a good rain can knock the blooms down or away. And finally, if you wait too long, the blooms can clear out. All of these scenarios can be disappointing. This is why it is important to have an experienced CT maternity photographer that has scheduled with blooms before.
This mom chose to borrow her maternity dress from the Sharon Leger Photography Client Closet. The family was waiting to be surprised with whether it was a boy or a girl. This dress definitely convinced me that it was a girl (read to the end to find out what they had!). It was the perfect color for this spring blossom maternity session.
The Spring Blossom Maternity Session
When the family arrived, we gave the toddler a few minutes to explore his new surroundings. During that time, I took some pictures of the expecting mom on her own. Once the toddler decided he was interested and wandered over, we transitioned to family photos. Luckily, the location is fairly small. That way, when the toddler was bored, he was able to stay close while we did some pictures with just the parents. It is so important when photographing families to give children frequent breaks. The pictures were definitely worth it!

Just a few weeks later, this family was surprised by a new little BOY entering the family. He is one lucky little guy, entering such a wonderful family.
This spring blossom maternity session was everything that I wanted it to be and more. The sunlight coming through the blossoms was pure perfection. I am already looking forward to returning next year for more spring blossom maternity sessions!
