I was thrilled when this expecting mom and dad reached out to book their summer maternity session with me. Burlington CT Maternity Photographer: The Dress Consult
After we booked her session, this mom immediately filled out all of her questionnaires. This helped me so much because I was able to envision what she wanted for her newborn session, as well as for this session. As a Burlington CT maternity photographer, I love when I can help guide clients to dresses that will complement their newborn pictures as well. This always helps to create a cohesive look with your final images. You can hang them on a wall and they all flow nicely together.
At her dress consultation at my studio in Canton, Connecticut, the mom and I discussed her vision for the session. She defaulted to me for all of the big choices, wanting to use my knowledge of lighting and location to make the best choice. I love when clients say this, because it allows me to be creative and create the best maternity session experience for you. As a Burlington CT maternity photographer, I will work within whatever parameters you need. But I especially love when we have some flexibility!
Together, we selected five dresses from the Client Closet that the mom liked and felt confident in. One of my favorite things about using the Client Closet is the variety we are able to get. Burlington CT Maternity Photographer: The Location
As I mentioned, this expecting couple was very open to my suggestions on location. I sent them a list of my favorite locations to shoot at. We selected the field in Simsbury, since it is especially gorgeous in the summer. Our priority was finding a location that would give a lot of variety. This is because the mom chose a lot of dresses from the Client Closet that had different looks.
For a maternity session, I prefer locations that aren’t too big so that the mom-to-be isn’t doing too much walking. Especially with having to change dresses, these sessions can be tiring! We don’t want to add to it by having to walk far distances. I especially love how the sunsets are at this location. And the best part? We had it all to ourselves!
Burlington CT Maternity Photographer: The Session
Maternity sessions are probably my favorite session to photograph. This should be no surprise as a Burlington CT maternity photographer! I just love how excited the parents are about the upcoming arrival of their little one and we truly have some great conversations.
To get the parents warmed up at their summer maternity session, I start them off in a field. I run them through the best maternity poses so everyone can get confident. Then, we switch dresses, switch locations and we’re off! I love that this mom started with the baby blue dress and then transitioned to this gorgeous white dress. This couple had gotten married last year, so the mom was excited to wear white again for this session!
As the evening progressed, the colors of the dresses got darker. I am not a huge fan of clients wearing black for family sessions. However, as a Burlington CT maternity photographer, I love them at sunset maternity sessions! I suggested that this client bring heels to really make the dress pop and pop it did!
