Word of mouth is one of my top ways of meeting new clients. Theo’s mom, Melissa, reached out to me when he was a few days old. Because of the pandemic, she hadn’t scheduled a newborn session yet. After seeing her friend’s recent images from her newborn session, she knew she didn’t want to miss any milestones. So she reached out to book a first year collection for her newborn.
First Year Collection: The Newborn Session
For her newborn session, Melissa was so excited that she didn’t need to bring a thing. As a new mom, you have so much to worry about. Why stress over bringing props or outfits? I take all that stress away and make it so that all you have to do is bring that baby to your session. Their newborn session was before my Client Closet was officially launched, so the parents opted to bring their own wardrobe to the session.
I love that Melissa opted to bring a name plate with Theo’s name on it. We worked it into all of her first year collection sessions so that you can see the same name plate as Theo grew. This image of Theo with his name plate and a smile was probably my favorite from his newborn session at my studio in Canton, CT.
The Sitter Session
When it was time to book Theo’s six month session, Melissa and her husband were open to anything. Because Theo was born during the winter, I encouraged them to do an outdoor session, since that wouldn’t be an option for his cake smash session. I am so glad we did! We decided on Elizabeth Park as the best location, since many of the flowers were in bloom. We met in the early morning, in an effort to get a happy baby.
And a happy baby, we got! Mom wore a dress from the Client Closet that looked amazing on her. We were able to get a full session in before a lot of visitors entered the park and we were all so excited with the way these images turned out.
First Year Collection: The Cake Smash
When it was time for Theo’s last milestone session for their first year collection – the cake smash – Melissa knew she wanted to keep it timeless and classic. She opted for tans, whites and blues and then trusted me with the rest. Chris, from Home Sweet Home Bakery in Burlington, Connecticut, made a fabulous rustic cake. I designed the set and the parents were so excited to see that it fit the bill perfectly. Theo borrowed an outfit for his clean pictures at the beginning of the session. Doesn’t he look so good in blue? And, of course, we had to get his name plate in there for one more session!
The first year collection is such a great way to capture all of a baby’s milestones. As a mom of two, I know all too well how fast that first year goes by. Having a photographer remind you of the milestones and do all the coordination takes a huge burden off of you. And I promise you, mama, you won’t ever regret having these pictures done!
