The first few days with a newborn fly by in a blur. First you’re in the hospital. Then suddenly, the hospital staff is sending you home with a little human. Day and night melt together – forget knowing what day of the week it is!
Preparing for your 2022 newborn session can feel like a daunting task. That’s why I work closely with all new and seasoned parents to prepare for their session in advance.
You’ll be so happy to know that we will be able to capture all of the details of this special time in a non-stressful way.
Here are some ways that you can be preparing for your newborn session ahead of the birth of your baby:
Preparing For Your Newborn Session: Prep Guide Review
After you book your session, I will send you all of my secrets in the form of a prep guide. I have worked really hard to curate this prep guide. It will walk you through the highlights of how to be successful for your newborn session. The tips and tricks that I offer can sometimes make or break your session. That being said, it’s important to read through the guide at least once.
Because pregnancy exhaustion is REAL, I always encourage my clients to read it through once when they first get it. Then, I suggest re-reading it again a few weeks before your little one arrives. You may also want to share it with your partner so that you’re both involved. I will also reach out to you the week of your session to review the highlights with you. This is just in case you don’t have a chance to (hello, you’re responsible for a small human now!).
Preparing For Your Newborn Session: Choose Newborn Style Colors
One aspect of preparing for your newborn session that you will more than likely enjoy is picking out the colors for your session. On my website, I provide all of the different colors available to you in my newborn styling closet. You can work through the questionnaire that I send you, thinking about what colors you like best. You will want to keep home style and decor in mind, in addition to what you may want to use your images for. I’ve had several clients choose their birth announcement first, then ask me to coordinate around it. That’s definitely a possibility!
Preparing For Your Newborn Session: Planning Your Wardrobe
I remember when I had my first baby, I was horrified to learn that I wouldn’t be leaving the hospital in my pre-pregnancy jeans. One of the reasons that I created the Sharon Leger Photography Client Closet was to provide moms of newborns with a variety of flattering options. You don’t want to have to think about dress sizes a few days after you gave birth to a baby! All you have to do is show up to the studio and we will find a dress that works on you. If you want to shop the Client Closet ahead of time, I always encourage it so that you can help plan your partner’s outfit around a dress that you are drawn to. I always encourage male partners to wear a dress shirt and pants – you can never go wrong!
A Final Word
I remember those hazy newborn days well and I am here for you as a resource. We can chat about pumping, uncomfortable hospital beds or what your husband should wear to the session. I am an open book! Probably the most important thing to do to prepare for your session is to review the prep guide. Other than that, we’ll figure out the rest together and you’ll be so thankful that you captured all of these details. Before you know it, a week will have gone by, a month and then we’ll be planning your little one’s cake smash. I’m here with you every step of the way, mama!
