Litchfield CT Engagement Session

Choosing a CT Family Photographer

If you want to love your family portraits, you need to know how to choose a CT family photographer that is right for you. The person that you choose to freeze these moments in time for your family is going to participate in an experience with you. They are going to get you excited for your session , they will show you how to place your hand so your arm looks as flattering as possible and they will help you turn a grumpy three-year old’s frown upside down.

I think we can all agree this takes a special kind of person. So when Google-ing your next CT family photographer, be sure to tap into your social networks, research your options, and pay close attention to your first impressions in order to find the CT family photographer you were meant to make memories with.

How to Choose a CT Family Photographer: Ask for Recommendations

A talented photographer is going to have a following, whether it be on social media or in real-life. Poke around on your favorite social media platform to see if any of your friends have recently had pictures done. This is a great place to start your research. Often this bread crumb trail will lead you to a photographer’s business page where you will want to go directly to the reviews.

How many reviews do they have? What types of compliments (or criticisms!) are they receiving? And finally, ask around, even if it’s on a Facebook group page for your town. So many people are having great experiences and putting that extra time in upfront could save you a lot of time down the road.

How to Choose a Family Photographer: Research Your Options

Thanks to Google, Instagram and Facebook, you could get a list of 30 CT family photographers in your area in the next two minutes. But how do you narrow it down?

First, check out their website, and even more specifically, their portfolio. Do you like their style? Can you picture yourself in these shots? Would you want a picture like this of your family hanging in your home? All photographers pride themselves on different styles, so be sure to check out a variety of options before settling on a select few to reach out to.

First Impressions

I don’t know about you, but first impressions are always so important to me. Once you’ve narrowed down your list and reached out to a CT family photographer or two, pay close attention to your interactions. Are their responses timely? Helpful? Are you excited to meet them or do you just feel like another client on their checklist? You want your photographer to be someone that you can click with, someone that you would want to hang out with. You are trusting them with your family’s memories and you want to try to find someone that you can come back to year after year.

If you don’t love your CT family photographer, you are not going to love your images. If you have a stressful experience, you are not going to want to call them back next year. So definitely do your homework: ask questions, do research and ask for recommendations. It’ll be worth it!
